Chevy Malibu Named Car Of The Year

Last year, the Saturn Aura was named the North American car of the Year.  This year, General Motors once again took the award.  This year, the award goes to the Chevy Malibu.

The Auto Channel reported that the Malibu was chosen from a short listed field of 15 cars.   This is again an achievement for the Detroit automaker as it needs a boost in morale after it has seen market share and sales dropping

Bob Lutz, General Motors vice chairman had this to say:  "This award is the result of our intensive efforts to put a renewed emphasis on design, execution and craftsmanship into our cars and trucks.  We’re honored that both automotive journalists and consumers are recognizing our efforts. The fact we had four of the six finalist vehicles is more than we could have hoped for."

Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager added:  "Our goal with the 2008 Malibu was to give customers a stylish, uncompromising package that can challenge even the most formidable competitors in the midsize segment.  Customers are getting that message, because the new Malibus are selling faster than we can put them on dealers’ lots."  Sale of the Malibu commenced in November last year.

The Malibu is expected to attract more consumers into Chevy dealerships across the United States.  The vehicle is sure to have auto parts as reliable as Acura hoods.   This can be expected as Chevy has been proving to consumers that they can also deliver reliable vehicles.

Matt DeLorenzo of Road & Track had this to say about the Malibu:  "Fresh new styling, high quality materials and a silky smooth drivetrain give this family car the feel of an entry level luxury car. The 6-speed automatic and V-6 power are standouts."
